THE SUMMERLANDS CHUFFER

Roundhouse Smoke-box notes

Roger Loxley of Roundhouse has kindly provided the information listed below, but he has asked me to make it clear that Roundhouse cannot supply smoke-box removal instructions. Instead they put all their energies into producing the superb locos that we all love and into providing their legendary after-sales service.

Please do not contact Roundhouse to ask for smoke-box removal instructions – check out the fitting pages in the website here (we hope to add new notes regularly) or seek assistance from an experienced 16mm model engineer.

Roger's Roundhouse List
And what a fantastic list – thanks Roger! Notes in italics are mine (CB)

The following loco's do not have a separate smoke box or the boiler fills the smokebox shell.
Mk1 Sandy River #24 (see Sandy River notes)
Charles Pooter (probably a complete dismantle job to remove the boiler)
  Erika
Vale of Rheidol (Chuffer installation is simply down the chimney)
Carrie (pipes can be accessed from front only when outer smoke-box is removed)

The following smoke boxes are not removable without extensive dis-assembly, e.g. removal of bodywork and boiler.
  Forney
  Argyll (See Argyll notes)
  Fowler (see Fowler notes)
Lady Anne '88 - '91 (see Fowler and Argyll notes)
  Jack (early version)
  Early Billy
  Early William

The following are removable but require some body dis-assembly.
  Atlantic (See Atlantic notes.)
Silver Lady (now simple down-the-chimney fit)
  Darjeeling (see Darj notes)
  Russell (see Russel notes)
  Sammie
  Bertie (See Bertie notes)
  Stanley

The following are relatively simple to remove.
  Old Colonial
  L & B
Lady Anne - pre '88 and post '91
Dylan - all versions (though it is possible that post '88 ones are more complex)
  Katie
  Billy - current version
  William - Later version
Jack (later version and new 2010 version)
  Millie
  Linda
  Blanche
  Charles
Taliesin (chuffers available for Z exhaust models only - batch 3 onwards - early versions with the L exhaust cannot be fitted unless the whole exhaust is changed - see Chuffer Fitters here)
